Options to reupholster your furniture or recovery
They often speak of "recovering" the furniture in the sense of a nice looking new versions furniture in new tissue. But there are several ways to accomplish this, each suitable for different types or conditions of furniture and different prices.
The main options are:
- Protective Cases
- Covered as
- Stretch Covers
- Re-Upholstery
- Re-cover
The reason is important to know what you are getting is that there are significant issues of safety, cost and durability. Misfortune for being "the truth" of a rogue supplier can charge big money for lower quality work. As you see only the outer covering of the finished Labour may not learn until something goes wrong.
Protective Cases
Cover the traditional assembly, which serves to get a cotton print with valance finish at the bottom. My dad always said – "the kind of decks of the Queen is in your furniture when you is the message of Christmas "(although probably not in these days polishing the image!). They are very clearly a cover, and all seem more or less the same whatever the design of the furniture underneath. They are made to be easily removed, washed and slipped again.
Covered as
Invented by my father Richard Vipond who coined the term "Covered as', it covers that have adapted to the design original furniture. For example, the cases were first made for furniture that is Cintique seats and backs complex consisting of cushions attached with nails to a frame. Covers exactly match the original cushions, which include automatic flap, and even the buttoned in the back.
With modern covers as you can expect a cover that is created specifically for the contours of your furniture and that as far as possible from the roof will reflect the main features of design of the chair or sofa underneath. You can learn more about custom covers from the link on the homepage. Unfortunately, the term coined by my father "Covered as is much evil in these days, even with stretching covers sometimes masquerading as tailored covers.
Stretch Covers
These are covers made mainly of polyester point. They may have other fabrics such as cotton yarn in which the supplier can say 'cotton', but the structure of the fabric is the same.
They used to be made in a set of rules would be extended sizes and largely cover a chair, etc, but the stretch would seam appeared all over the place. In recent years, the degree of stretch has been reduced and improved fabric designs. Cutting cover more closely to the shape of the furniture that have improved the way, but the covers are still relying on the stretch of the fabric.
A very important issue here, however is one of safety. When the government introduced the fire safety regulations in 1988 range covers still very popular, but it was impossible to make that meet the safety standards of other fabrics. So to protect the industry a compromise was reached whereby stretch covers had to comply with a standard lower. Unfortunately, at the time no one believes that require customers should be aware that coverage was actually stretching (and thus met a lower level) or that it should be labeled. An unsatisfactory situation that persists to this day, although a large number of stretch covers are still being made and sold.
** Please note: Comments on the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Act 1988 (as amended) on this page and this site are my opinion only, and we can not assume responsibility for the information provided. By their nature the Regulations and the interpretation of them by the rules trade are complex, so if any issue is critical for you, it is important to consult the regulations themselves or the very useful guide to the standards published by BERR (formerly DTI).
Re-Upholstery
This is the total dispossession of their furniture down to the water and the frame, creating new or reconstituted with fillings. When complete, the Re-upholstered furniture should be as good as the original. (Note, however most upholsterers not polished wood surfaces, show that there is a slight difference – however Lynplan not to polish the wood as part of the service).
We found most of the furniture that the years in homes with central heating through the joints are deteriorating and need often called aside and re-configuration, so I always find out if this is part of the service being offered.
The most important however is the word "tapestry." In fact, this means that the filling, and how it is manufactured in a chair or sofa to give comfort and support (which does not mean just the cover.) Unfortunately, whether by design error "Re-cover" (see below) is often confused with "re-upholstery. There is a huge cost and quality differences between the two. You can take a man at least a day of being naked in a chair upholstered traditionally return to the fabric, stitch in the springs, then apply layers of felt, etc. and sew in hair and fiber the right company with sewn edges. You can expect an upholstered chair back then to last for many years – indeed, many 10 years!
Contrast this with Re-Abarca, where the cover simply remove the cover and a sewn, attached in place. This is probably the most common misrepresentations in the industry, which is why the Association of Master Upholsterers moved to issue clear guidance recently. So be careful and make the key question when offered new upholstery Furniture: You mean Re-Re upholstery or concealment?
Re-cover
This is the elimination original fabric of the roof and replacement with a new one. A layer of fiber (commonly called 'dacron') may be added first to smooth wrinkles. It is especially appropriate when you have furniture in good condition – maybe only a couple of years and have grown tired of, or the need to close the lid, but do not want a cover to order.
We do not recommend re-cover only about 7 years, including stuffed probably starting to deteriorate below and soon your beautiful new home (which is unlikely to be cheap!) will begin to SAG and the bag. As mentioned above, it is important not to confuse re-cover with back upholstery.
